Otherwise I could go non-Sony with a previous year 4K model without UHD and buy a Mi Box or Shield for Android TV and a ~$150ish range wired soundbar. 4K UHD would be great but I'd have to probably spend my whole budget just for the set and no soundbar. The Sony BRAVIAs look nice but I've heard they have a poor implementation of Android TV and they don't do wireless sound. I'd like to do wireless sound through a soundbar and I already have a Google Home and Chromecasts around my house so was thinking Android TV for the OS. I'm in the same boat with the $500-750 budget and 50-55" size. I also know that historically, there have been favorable TV deals leading up to Super Bowl, so I'm more than willing to be patient for a few weeks to get a good deal. As noted, basement, so we can make the space very dark. Looking around, it seems like there are plenty of 4K sets in that range, but is there better value to be found in 1080p sets, or are those all low end stuff now? I've no use for any apps, as I'll use Chromecast or Roku for Plex (which, along with cable coming in at 720p/1080i will be the primary usage). 4K is interesting, but I have no 4K material, nor do I expect to acquire much in the short/mid-term, so 4K would just be a light future proofing, a nice-to-have. I'd love to be in the 60"-65" range, but past that, I don't really care. Obviously, that's not getting me a nice high end anything. What I do know right now is that I'll need, based on viewing distance, something in the range of 50" - what I don't know is what options I NEED. Now I am lost as I don't understand all of my options and don't recognize the non-mainstream brands.and I don't speak German and my German wife doesn't understand technology. I had also added a Costco Samsung 46" to the bedroom. In the US I had a Sony 40" XBR that I paid $2,500 for a number of years ago, it was a great set. What makes my predicament a bit different is that I've relocated from the US to Germany. For the first time in a long while I am in the market for a new TV.
